Editorial policy
Last reviewed: 9 August 2026. This page is for general information only and is not legal, tax or financial advice.
UK Finance & Accountancy Tools publishes calculators, figures and guides about UK money. This page explains how that content is produced, so you can judge how much to trust it.
Our editorial principles
- Accuracy first. Rates, thresholds and allowances are stored in a single data layer and are verified against official sources (GOV.UK and HMRC) at the start of each tax year. Every calculator states the tax year it uses.
- Transparency. Every calculator shows the formula it uses and its assumptions, and each page links to the relevant official source so you can verify the numbers yourself.
- Plain English. We explain "why" as well as "how". If a concept is complicated (like the personal allowance taper), we say so and show a worked example.
- No fear-mongering. We don't use deadline countdowns or scare tactics to drive traffic.
- Corrections are welcome. We publish corrections promptly and thank people who report errors.
Where the figures come from
Calculator rates come from official sources, primarily GOV.UK and HMRC publications for each tax year. Where a rule varies by region (such as Scottish income tax or Welsh stamp duty), the calculator states the variation or its assumption. When we simplify a rule for usability, the assumptions box on the calculator page says exactly what we've simplified.
How often content is reviewed
Rates are reviewed at the start of each UK tax year (6 April) and whenever an emergency Budget or Finance Act changes mid-year rules. Each page shows its last-reviewed date. If you see a figure that's out of date, tell us — see contact.
Sponsored and advertising content
We do not publish paid-for editorial, sponsored posts or advertorials that mimic our own content. Advertising is only ever clearly labelled as such — see our advertising disclosure. No advertiser has any influence over calculator rates, formulae or guide content.
Corrections policy
When we become aware of an error, we correct it as quickly as possible and update the last-reviewed date. Significant corrections to published figures will be noted on the relevant page.
